Platelet Rich Plasma Treatments (PRP)

Ford Wellness Center is proud to offer PRP treatment, a well-known treatment to accelerate tissue healing. Not only will this revolutionary procedure promote faster healing, but there’s almost no downtime, meaning you can get back to living your life.

Regenerative medicine specialist, Dr. Nathan D. Ford, uses the most innovative treatments available to give each patient the best possible outcome. One such treatment, platelet-rich plasma therapy, more commonly known as PRP injections, is a medical procedure used to help a person with a soft tissue injury (I.e muscle, tendon, and cartilage).

How it works

PRP therapy works by utilizing the platelets from the patient’s own blood to promote tissue growth and renewal. Our blood’s platelets, used for clotting blood, also contain proteins called “growth factors.” These growth factors help to rebuild tissue in many different types of injuries.

Who Can Benefit From Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment?

PRP therapy can benefit anyone with specific muscular, bone, cartilage or tendon injuries, as well as difficult to treat wounds. Because of this, the treatment is becoming common practice in the world of professional sports, where athletes depend greatly on being able to recover from injuries as fast as possible. Both golfer Tiger Woods and tennis player Rafael Nadal have benefited greatly from PRP injections in treating their respective injuries, as have many other athletes in the NFL, MLB, and NBA, including, Kobe Bryant.

The PRP treatments at Ford Wellness Center can improve and effectively treat:

  • Ankle sprains

  • Tennis elbow

  • Ligament sprains

  • Tendinitis

  • ACL injuries

  • Stress fractures

  • Runner's knee

  • Difficult wounds

Dr. Nathan Ford has leveraged his expertise in administering PRP therapy by developing a unique technique to utilize this proven fast-healing treatment with a cosmetic procedure associated with the anti-aging part of his practice. Those seeking innovative treatments to bring a more youthful appearance and rejuvenate skin can also benefit from PRP therapy with Dr. Ford's customized Glow Facial. Harvesting and utilizing growth factors can not only speed up soft tissue injuries, among many other types of injuries, but also aid in rapid collagen reproduction to bring new life to your skin.

What To Expect From PRP Treatment

A patient receiving PRP therapy at Ford Wellness Center will first get a sample of their own blood drawn. After the blood is collected, the platelets are separated from the red and white blood cells using a centrifuge. The result is plasma with a high concentration of platelets - typically keep about five to ten times more platelets than normal blood. This plasma is then injected by Dr. Ford into the injured (or treated) area. The entire process generally takes less than two hours.

The side effects from PRP therapy are minimal. Most patients experience some soreness for two to three days after the injection. The overall pain from the injury will typically begin to decrease after about four weeks. In order to gain the maximum benefits from PRP therapy most patients can expect to receive about three treatments, spaced six weeks apart.

Why Is PRP Therapy So Beneficial?

One of the biggest benefits of PRP therapy is the fast healing time. Most patients can expect a relatively rapid recovery. The downtime can range from a few days to just a couple of weeks, depending on the individual patient and the type of injury being treated. PRP therapy has been credited with reducing the recovery time for many types of injuries up to 50%.

Another benefit of PRP therapy is that it uses the patient’s own platelets. This eliminates the risk of the body rejecting the platelets and minimizes a lot of other risks as well. Further, unlike invasive surgery, PRP therapy at the Ford Wellness Center is a simple procedure, typically treated by means of a single injection into the injured area.

Finally, compared to surgery the cost of PRP therapy is very affordable, making it a very attractive alternative.

Pheonix Thera-Lase

Dr. Ford offers a specialized approach to laser therapy with the Pheonix Thera-Last system. A powerful, highly effective, alternative to traditional cosmetic treatments, Ford Wellness Center provides a revolutionary new laser therapy which delivers more laser power to patient treatment sites, resulting in deeper penetration and improved therapeutic and effective results.

Phoenix Thera-Lase Systems, LLC was founded by leading medical-industry and business-development professionals to bring to market a successful laser therapy treatment system that combines the best of current technologies with innovative, industry-leading features.

The Phoenix Thera-Lase System can induce certain photochemical reactions (biostimulation or photo-biostimulation) in the soft tissues of both humans and animals. Some examples include:

  • The Retardation of Fibroblast Formation in Tissue Culture

  • An Increase in Nerve Stimulation and Correction

  • The Triggering of a Prostaglandin-Bradykinin Effect & Regeneration of Skin, Nerve, and Muscle Tissue

  • Improved Blood Flow and Vascularization (Development of Blood Vessels) in Damaged Tissue

  • Production of Natural Opiates and Other Compounds That Reduce Pain and Stimulate Healing

  • Direct Stimulation of Cellular Growth and Healing of Soft Tissue (Collagen)

How does it work?

The patented wavelengths, in conjunction with the custom, strategic internal design of these systems, allow energy levels that are ten to two hundred times higher in effective energy delivered to the injured tissue; in comparison with alternative therapeutic laser devices.

Lower powered lasers of non-optimal wavelengths lead to substantially higher rates of absorption of light energy by melanin (skin pigment) and higher absorption rates by hemoglobin (human blood). These devices are by necessity underpowered—impairing their ability to achieve clinically significant results on the scale with The Phoenix Thera-Lase Systems.

The treatment is delivered as a function of, and is dependent on wavelength, power, and time. Wavelength and power factors determine the penetration depth and quantity of energy available to transfer to the cells, and the type of healing determines the length of time needed to administer the treatment. Key: Photon energy particles emitted from Laser are absorbed by photoreceptors in the cell which allows for DNA restructuring,
ATP production, change in the mitochondria and allows for oxygenation, blood flow. Phoenix Thera-Lase Systems offer multiple competitive advantages, features and benefits including:

  • Deeper Penetration

  • Higher Power

  • Wider Beam Diameter

  • Higher Energy Transfer = (More Power)

  • Bigger Beam = (Better Treatment)

  • Better Utilization of Personnel & Patient Time

Non-invasive laser treatment also known as laser photo-biostimulation, cold laser, or soft laser is defined as a concentrated laser light energy delivered to the cellular level within the body to stimulate live tissue to heal, and is used to treat chronic and acute soft tissue injuries. The Phoenix Thera-Lase System precipitates a complex set of physiological interactions at the cellular level that reduces acute inflammation, reduces pain, and accelerates tissue healing.
